Timber Cut to Project Specifications

Standard timber sizes do not always line up with a building plan or a workshop cutting list. At Tableland Timbers Pty Ltd, our custom timber milling service gives Grafton customers a way to discuss the sections and lengths required for a particular job. The starting point is a clear specification rather than a guess about what might fit.

We work with rough sawn, green timber and do not dry, dress or treat it. Please account for that finish when preparing dimensions, especially where a project ultimately needs a machined surface or controlled moisture level. If you are specifying timber for a load-bearing use, our structural sawn hardwood information is a useful companion to the cutting list.

FAQ's

Include each piece's section size, length and quantity, along with relevant species or grade requirements. A drawing or clear project specification helps explain unusual dimensions.

No, cut-to-order describes how material is sawn to requested dimensions. It does not imply kiln drying, dressing or preservative treatment.

Custom dimensions do not remove the need to meet a project's design requirements. Structural grade, species and connections should still be checked against the appropriate documentation.

Prepare a Useful Cutting List

A little detail at the enquiry stage makes it easier to discuss the material you require.

  • Required sections. List the nominal width and thickness for each piece. Note any dimension that must be checked against a finished assembly or drawing.
  • Lengths and quantities. Group pieces by length and record how many you need. A measured schedule is more useful than a broad estimate of total timber.
  • Species and grade. Identify a preferred hardwood species and any specified structural grade. If these are not yet established, consult the appropriate designer or trade professional before ordering.
  • Finish and application. Tell us how the timber will be used and what happens to it after milling. We supply rough sawn, green material, so further processes may form part of your project.
